Update on life

I'm so terrible at keeping this up. My life is in GO mode so I never seem to thinking about sitting down and writing.

So, I'll catch everyone up on the last couple of months. Xay's birthday was wonderful. My parents were here to celebrate and we had such a blast. My mom made a buzz cake which xay was obsessed with. It was such a blast, and exciting to see him so happy and with all his friends. Here are some pictures from his exciting day.

I started school at the end of August beginning of September and before I knew it fall and Halloween had come. I love Halloween, I always have. Dressing up, making treats it's all so festive and exciting for me. This year Ashley and I had a murder mystery party. That was a blast, and on Halloween I took xay trick or treating in the rich neighborhoods haha. I also got to go to the haunted forest and get a little frightened. It was a good holiday.

Thanksgiving rolled in and we celebrated with Ashley, Chad and Chad's family. It was a nice evening. I baked a Pumpkin Cheesecake (I borrowed the recipe from Olive Garden) and my very first Vegan cake. Which people insist was delicious. The best part about thanksgiving was that I went black Friday shopping for the very first time! It was exciting and I got amazing deals. Especially on DVDs. This is something I think I'm going to have to do every year!!!

December came along and this was the best time of the year! We got to have two Christmas's. One here with friends and then we traveled the very long 19 hours to Iowa and visited with my parents. Both were wonderful. Here in Utah Hannah (Xay's friend) was visiting from Washington and they enjoyed playing together and getting into trouble haha. Ashley and I baked, baked and baked some more. The amount of sweets that we put together was unbelievable, next year we'll be a little less ambitious. lol. Christmas in Iowa was amazing as well. It was the first Christmas I had spent with my family in 8 years. So, it was amazing to be home and finally share such a special time with them.

Welcome 2012!!!! I spent the new year in Iowa with my parents. We went to probably the most honky tonk wedding I'd every been to... the bride didn't even have music playing when she walked down the aisle, and the father of the groom & bride and whole family for that matter wore a dashing ensemble that consisted of overalls, grease stained knees, untrimmed beards, and chewing tobacco. Unforgettable, lol. We ended the evening at Prairie Meadows Casino. My mom got a taste of lady luck while playing the slot machine "deal or no deal" while my dad and I weren't so lucky. ;-)

The beginning of this year has been messy and filled with stress, school, tears and prayers. We found out in December that my mom has breast cancer so right now that's really been the only thing that has been occupying my mind.

Xay is growing, growing, growing... He's 38" wears a size 9 and eats more than I do. I know that this boy is going to eat me out of house and home someday. He's such a precious little boy though. So thankful for what I have. <3 <3

Almost 2

So, this week has been very busy. I've been preparing and setting up for Xay's birthday extravaganza. My baby turns 2 on Saturday!!! I can't believe it. But, who knew that a child's party would be so expensive. Birthday invites, jump house, all the way down to the plastic plates and cups... Everything just seems to add up. But, I know that when he see's his presents and all his friends he's going to have an amazing time. We're having a toy story theme. I've gotten a purple dinosaur bounce house, and lots of fun decorations down to the buzz cake that my mom is making.

We went in for our big boy haircut this last week. He was very upset with me but it was much needed because he was beginning to get a bit of an afro. Haha. I think he looks like such a big boy now. You tell me though, what do you think?? More to come at the end of the week when my parents arrive and we celebrate this little boys bday.

The Invasion of "Buzz" & "Woody"

A couple weeks ago Xay & I were walking through the store and he saw a shirt with the characters Buzz & Woody on it, he said: "Mama, BUZZ! WOODY!!" I was so excited that he knew who they were that I bought it for him.

The obsession begins. At first I thought it was adorable that he would ask for buzz and woody everything, but then it became a little overwhelming. We are up to watching Toy Story 3 3-4 times a day (Unless I hide it from him) And, if he sees ANYTHING at the store that has a buzz or woody character on it I find myself having to veer away from that section because he tries to put it in our cart.

The perfect example would be when we were in the grocery store and he saw this giant size buzz and woody coloring book. He immediately went to the "Mama, Buzz, Woody, COLOR!" It was only $4 bucks so I thought hey why not. When we got up to the check out stand Xay had a hard time REFUSED to give the coloring book to the clerk because he thought she was stealing it from him.

When I put him in the car, again he refused to take his little hands away from clutching this huge coloring book. I got him strapped up in his car seat and ready to go, and after a long car ride home I found him passed out, still clutching his buzz and woody coloring book...

This obsession is taking over our lives. I find myself speaking in code and not wanting to even mention the names "Buzz" or "woody" for fear of a full fledged tantrum that is sure to follow if I don't immediately put in the movie.

His birthday is coming up and my mom has excitedly offered to help me with his cake which I'm sure xay is going to absolutely love. My only hope is that he shares it with the other children and doesn't try to carry it around as a prize. :)

Summer Days

It's been a long time since I've written. In that time Xay has grown up and become a full fledged little boy. Where does time fly?? I tell you there's not better way to see how fast it goes than having a child.

The last year has been a whirlwind. I'm working two jobs, going to school full time and being a mommy to Xay. It's busy.. But, it's fun and keeps me on my toes. I always remind myself how blessed I am. I know Heavenly Father looks out for me, I'm reminded of it everyday.

How YOUNG is too young?

So, today I was chatting texting with my friend... and I told her that I had put Xay in his first time out. (Mind you I put him there because he was trying to put a big wooden plaque through my tv) After saying "NO" to him and seeing that he wasn't listening I took him over to his chair and faced him towards the wall where he had his 1 minute time out. I was told that it's a minute for each year they are... my friend seemed disappointed that I would put an almost one year old in time out. I think that time outs are good, and instructive way of letting them know what's right from wrong. So far it's working, so I will continue doing it this way and see how it goes. So far, I'm "pro" time-out.
